About the Role

The HR Generalist – China and SE Asia will report to the International People Manager (UK based) and will work with key stakeholders in China and SE Asia providing proactive and business focused People support.

As part of this role, the successful candidate will:

  1. Lead on the development of regional and local employment arrangements, including HR policies and procedures, appropriate terms and conditions and optimum methods of engagement.
  2. Coach Managers with support and advice on recruitment practices, induction, performance management and development, casework e.g. grievance, disciplinary, absence management, Health and Safety, compliance in relation to general employment matters.
  3. Work with the Organisation Development Team, to ensure the effective communication, implementation and training for all HR related policies/practices to employees and workers.
  4. Work closely with business areas and the reward team in the UK in line with Coventry University Group policy to assist with salary reviews and ensure effective reward strategies are in place.
  5. In liaison with UK Reward and Payroll teams, oversee local benefit schemes including liaison with suppliers, managing contract reviews and benefit input and administration.
  6. Working with the People Team in the UK, to ensure local legal compliance with employment law requirements, and ensure that supporting legal policies and procedures are updated accordingly.
  7. In liaison with the Group Payroll team, identify and work with relevant payroll contacts and agencies to ensure the effective and timely delivery of payroll within the region.  Acts as the People team lead for all HR related audits within the region.

Key Requirements

  • 5-10 years of experience as an HR Generalist or equivalent in China.
  • Good understanding of local Chinese labor law with knowledge of Singapore labor law a plus.
  • Qualified with HR focused degree or equivalent.  Must hold qualification or be willing to work towards CIPD.
  • Experience in cross cultural stakeholder management, ideally within an international education, governmental or multinational company environment.
  • Fluent in Mandarin Chinese and English.
  • Work or study abroad experience in the United Kingdom is a plus.

The ideal candidate will be an HR Generalist with experience working for a multinational company in China.
